Accessibility Consultant Services

This video covers what an accessibility consultant does and the range of accessibility consultant services organizations typically engage.

Accessibility consultants evaluate websites, apps, and digital products against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Their core work involves conducting audits that identify conformance issues, then providing guidance on how to fix them. Most consultants work at WCAG 2.1 AA or 2.2 AA conformance levels.

Beyond audits, consultants often provide remediation support. This means reviewing code changes, advising development teams on correct implementation, and verifying that fixes address the original issues. Some consultants also offer training for designers, developers, and content authors so that teams can prevent new issues from being introduced.

Another common service is VPAT and Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) creation. Organizations selling software or digital products to government agencies or enterprises frequently need an ACR documenting their product’s conformance status. Consultants evaluate the product and produce the completed report.

Ongoing monitoring and periodic re-evaluation round out most consulting engagements. Automated scans flag approximately 25% of accessibility issues, so consultants pair scheduled scans with periodic manual evaluation to maintain conformance over time.
